David Carson Shaw – Painter

David’s work is primarily concerned with aspects of landscape and the built environment, with changing moods through the seasons. He is also very interested in the relationships of people, fauna and flora in those environments.

His paintings are all to some extent based on directly observed experience or the memory of an experience. Although they often appear to be tranquil, the content may also reflect elements of the mysterious, and include aspects of movement e.g. light and wind.

Much recent work has been influenced by visits to the Peak District, Scotland and Italy. There is also an increasing allegorical content. David aims to portray a sense of permanence and happiness, yet with an awareness of sadness of time passing.

David studied History in Dublin and painting in Sheffield and Munich. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and also exhibiting member of the Sheffield Contemporary Art Trust and of the Arts House, Wakefield. He has held over 40 solo exhibitions, is included in over 20 collections and has won several prizes.
