John Bainbridge – Painter
John is head-teacher of a Sheffield junior school and has always tried to make time for painting, drawing and occasionally working with clay.
The open moorland of Derbyshire has always held a deep attraction for him and he has spent a lot of time fell running and being close to the land in all kinds of weather day and night! He started to exhibit his paintings in 2000 and was pleasantly surprised when they began to sell very successfully. HIs paintings have been on show at the Cupola Gallery in Sheffield, and at the Gallery Top in Rowsley, and he is pleased now to show them at Baslow Pottery.
His work attempts to reflect a close contact with the colour, texture and light of wild land. Active, restless areas and energetic gestural marks contrast with still diffused surfaces to explore the co-incidence of physical and contemplative space. The paintings celebrate the vitality and mystery of the “awe-inspiring” in landscape.
